The Middle East has turned into a witch’s cauldron. Rising tensions in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden reached their peak with the US targeting Iranian UAVs. A statement was made by the US Central Command (CENTCOM).
“THREE IRANIAN UAVS WERE SHOWED DOWN”
In the statement made by CENTCOM, it was reported that the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen fired an anti-ship ballistic missile towards the Gulf of Aden at around 20.30 local time. It was reported that the missile was shot down by the warship USS Carney (DDG 64). It was stated that the USS Carney ship also shot down 3 Iranian unmanned aerial vehicles in the vicinity at 21.10.
Houthi drone station and 10 drones were hit
In a different statement made later in the day by CENTCOM, it was announced that US forces attacked the Iranian-backed Houthis’ UAV ground control station and 10 one-way UAVs at 01.30 local time. It was emphasized that UAVs pose an imminent threat to commercial ships and US Navy ships in the region and that the attack was carried out in self-defense.
Houthis ANNOUNCED THAT THEY TARGETED THE US SHIP
Yemen Armed Forces Spokesperson Yahya Saree stated that the Yemeni Navy carried out an operation against the commercial ship named ‘KOI’, which he stated belonged to the USA. “The naval forces of the Yemen Armed Forces carried out a special military operation with several naval missiles targeting the ‘KOI’, an American merchant ship heading to the occupied Palestinian ports, and directly hitting the ship,” Saree said. CENTCOM did not make any statement regarding this attack.
