Engine, tires, brake pads… Although your vehicle is in good health, an additional check should be carried out every 10 years. Are you driving safely?
When it comes to road safety, intransigence is essential. Every detail counts to ensure your protection and that of your passengers, so we remain vigilant. Although your vehicle has passed a technical inspection, an important element must be inspected every decade at the risk of creating an extremely serious accident. This silent but vital device is however often forgotten. Because even the safest vehicles can be exposed to serious accidents.
However, to reduce the risk of death, many drivers are unaware of it, but a safety tool should be reviewed every 10 years. This is the airbag. This invisible cushion is triggered in a fraction of a second in the event of a collision and can save lives. But for this, it must be in working order and of good quality. Indeed, these white balloons do not last forever and run out of steam over time. It is therefore vital to do a regular check-up.
Three elements must be checked for the airbag to be effective: the impact sensors, the inflator and the airbag itself. These components are connected to a central system which decides whether they are activated. So, each element must be correctly connected. To do this, refer to your car’s maintenance booklet which must mention the date of the airbag check. If this has never been done or more than 10 years ago, contact your mechanic to carry out a simple check.
Other important checks should be carried out regularly on your vehicle. Although appearances can be deceiving, a vehicle ages and wears out over time, which is why numerous periodic checks must be followed. Here are the main ones to remember:
Check every month:
- Tire pressure
- Oil level
- The coolant level
- Brake fluid level
Check every year:
- The emptying
- The oil filter
- Battery status
Check every two years:
- Purging the different liquids
- The distribution system
After that, there’s no more excuse for good behavior!
