An out-of-form Västerås certainly managed to defeat Nybro 6-3 at home on Sunday.
But before that, they had three straight losses and with that series of matches behind them, they visited Hovet in Stockholm this evening.
There, VIK got a fine start to the match when Trevor Mingoia gave the visitors the lead after only 3.5 minutes of play.
Exploited the advantage
But then Djurgården’s way came into the match.
Västerås defender Amil Krupic was tough against the home team’s Wiktor Nilsson down in one corner and received a match penalty for cross-checking (see clip above).
On that occasion, Västerås already had a player sent off and when Djurgården then got the chance in five against three, the equalizer came, Linus Klasen scoring.
Tackled Nilsson’s goal scorer
The remaining part of the five-minute expulsion was defended by VIK in a good way and the score was 1-1 after 20 minutes.
Wiktor Nilsson came back into play after the blow and left his mark in the second period. This when he easily made it 3-1 to Djurgården when he completed a quick conversion by putting the puck in the open box when the goalkeeper was overplayed. Nilsson’s 13th goal of the season.
Before that, Albin Grewe had been responsible for the 2-1 goal.
Near receipt
In the third period, Djurgården controlled the events initially. But with six minutes left to play, defenseman Alexander Lindelöf sent in a puck from the blue line and with traffic in front of Viktor Andrén, it found its way into the goal.
Västerås put real pressure on Djurgården’s goal and Andrén had to be responsible for a couple of really sweaty parades. The visitors also hit the post with just a few seconds left to play.
But it wasn’t enough and the Stockholmers won 3-2.
