“I don’t think people understand that”

Linn Svahn has been through hell.
And is now finally back at the top of the world.
– I don’t think people understand what she has been through, says her trainer Ola Ravald in the “Viaplay Winter Podcast”.

If there’s anyone you really wish every success to, it’s that Lynn Svahn. The 24-year-old has gone through the worst and had to fight every day for two years to find his way back to his usual self on the ski slopes.

Svahn’s great success

After a shoulder injury that led to double operations and extensive rehabilitation, Svahn has had to wait a long time for success. When she took home a sprint race during the Tour de Ski, it had been a full 1,063 days since Linn’s last World Cup victory.

It’s a huge wait for a young skier with a winning streak like few others. At Svahn’s side is the ski coach Ola Ravald had to follow the entire process and went through the nightmare together with his mentee.
– It is impossible to be anything other than satisfied with what she is performing right now, he says in the “Viaplay Vinter Podcast” and is asked if he is surprised by Svahn’s success.
– Well, I’m not that surprised or surprised. I’ve been more waiting for it. She had a tough time for a long time and it is clear that it takes time before you are completely back on track. But around New Year’s, things fell into place and then I started to believe in it fully again. But I wasn’t surprised during the Tour de Ski.

Revealing the truth

After that first victory in the Tour de Ski, Linn Svahn has absolutely exploded, winning four straight sprint races. She also has six World Cup victories in all competitions in the month of January alone.

But it has been a long and stressful road here.
– I don’t think people understand what she has been through. If you look at two operations for the shoulder, she is still incredibly willing to train and wants to move forward, several other injuries have come because of this shoulder and we have had to parry things over time. Only in October-November was she able to seriously train to the full without any problems. The process has been extremely challenging for her and definitely testing her patience, coach Ravald reveals in the podcast.
– It has been difficult and I have not always been sure that she believed that she will come back. But she’s done an absolutely amazing job along the way, so I’m very happy for her now.

Ola Ravald probably knows Linn better than anyone else in the national skiing team and he is so proud that she is back at the top of the world again, where Svahn belongs.
– We have worked very closely together ever since ski high school days and I have gotten to know her. We know how we both work but of course it’s a test of patience. We have never been able to plan long-term, but after the shoulder operations, we have only been able to see two weeks ahead right up to Christmas. It has been extremely tough for her and we have had many difficult conversations. But she has never given up and just kept working on it, he says in the interview.
