The government introduces a new environmental bonus

Since the environmental bonus on electric cars was removed, the electric car market has been significantly slower, which did not see the same growth in 2023 as in previous years.

Despite this, no new environmental bonus for passenger cars is on the cards.

Now the government however, decided to introduce a bonus for electric light trucks of SEK 50,000.

Will speed up the transition

The idea of the bonus, which will be administered by the Swedish Energy Agency, is to speed up the conversion to electric vehicles.

However, the bonus will not be a long-term pleasure, but the amount will gradually be scaled down and be completely phased out already at the end of 2025.

Trucks are also supported

In addition to the bonus for light trucks, small and medium-sized companies should also be able to receive increased support if they invest in emission-free trucks.

The emission-free trucks receive, among other things, differentiated support levels and the ceiling amount is raised to 25 percent of the truck’s purchase price. The government has also ensured that trucks that run on vehicle gas are entitled to support.

The idea with this is according to the climate minister Romina Pourmokhtari that fossil-free fuels such as biogas will be important for the heavy vehicles that are difficult to electrify.

The new changes to the climate premium will enter into force on 13 February 2024.
