At the end of the 1990s, a groundbreaking blockbuster was released in the cinema, without which major films such as the adventures of the Pirates of the Caribbean series would have been unthinkable. We’re talking about The Mummy by director Stephen Sommers, who is a… classic universal monster turned into a blockbuster attraction.
The mummy has haunted film history for many decades. Particularly iconic, of course, is Boris Karloff’s version in the black-and-white fantasy horror classic The Mummy from 1932. The eerie figure awakens in Sommers’ thrilling new film through digital effects to live.
Great adventure film only briefly available on Netflix: The Mummy with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz

The adventurer Rick O’Connell (Brendan Fraser) and the archaeologist Evelyn Carnahan (Rachel Weisz) are responsible for the mummy’s return. They stumble upon Imotep’s grave and bring it vengeful priest as a mummy back from the afterlife. What follows is an exciting (and very romantic) fantasy adventure.
Although The Mummy’s digital effects have visibly aged, this does not detract from the entertainment value of this blockbuster classic. Sommers knows how to use references to this very well in his production Horror cinema of the 1930s and 1940s Years and modern viewing habits come together spectacularly.
The Mummy also scores points with its stars: Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz an incredible chemistry, which still resonates in blockbuster cinema decades later. The adventure film Jungle Cruise with Dwayne Marion Johnson and Emily Blunt bows to the legacy of The Mummy several times.
