In a 4-page document, the deputies of the parliamentary group Liberty, democracy and change which brings together the deputies of the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS) of Karim Wade and members of the opposition propose the creation of a commission of inquiry into the presidential candidate selection process.
The objective: to shed light on “ conflicts of interest, benefits and suspicions of corruption » of certain members of the Constitutional Council. Clearly, according to these deputies, some would have received money to invalidate certain applications. The accusations are serious and target two of the seven wise men of the Constitutional Council: judges Cheikh Tidiane Coulibaly and Cheikh Ndiaye accused of having “ questionable connections with certain candidates “.
Another point to examine according to the PDS deputies: “ serious breaches » during the control of sponsorships carried out by the Constitutional Council between December 26, 2023 and January 20, 2024: the use of an unupdated electoral file or even technical failures of the control software, according to them. Criticisms which had already been formulated by around forty failed candidates and received by Macky Sall last week.
