None other than Schuh the Manitu mastermind Michael “Bully” Herbig returns to the director’s chair. He also acts as a producer and co-author. He wrote the script with Christian Tramitz and Rick Kavanian. The three have been a well-rehearsed team since the sketch comedy show Bullyparade (1997-2002).

What is the plot of The Shoe of Manitu 2?
Plot details are currently still buried deep under the folding chair. But the title of the film suggests that we are looking at one Western adventure in the water element be allowed to take hold. Maybe Bully and Co. were inspired by the Winnetou classic The Treasure in Silver Lake. The press release announcing the film also reveals: “Abahachi, Ranger and Dimitri are getting some reinforcements!”
Does humor even work these days?
The humor of Schuh des Manitu is very versatile, but has also been criticized in recent years. Especially some homophobic, racist and sexist jokes from the original raise the question of whether and how the Manitu 2 shoe will work in 2025. In an interview with the SZ in 2022, Bully let it be known that if Manitu returned, he would adapt the gags to the spirit of the times.
The only thing I said was that this film would no longer be made like this today. If anything, then probably adapted to the spirit of the times. I still enjoy watching One, Two, Three by Billy Wilder, and you wouldn’t make that film exactly the same way today. Manitu’s shoe was already a parody of the old films from the sixties, in which we found some things unintentionally funny back then.

After (T)Raumschiff Surprise – Period 1, Period 2 is certainly an option, but so far there is no clues, that a sequel to the Star Trek/Star Wars parody is in the works. If the Manitu film’s new shoe is successful, that could change.
