It is already possible today for the police to use so-called AI technology to more efficiently go through recorded material from the police’s surveillance cameras – something that would facilitate the thinning of hour-long video recordings.

Now the police hope to get increased powers to also be able to use the technology in real time, which is something that the government is currently investigating quickly.
– As it is now, we need to have one person per camera, i.e. 320 people for 320 cameras, around the clock, to keep track of the image streams. With the analysis tools, it can be done lightning fast, says Stefan Singman, head of the police’s camera surveillance center in Stockholm.
