52,000 turkeys are killed in Denmark after bird flu

After two alerts about bird flu, 52,000 turkeys are to be killed in Denmark, Danish reports TV2.

The infection has been detected on two different turkey farms with the same owner.

– It is natural to think: Yes, then the infection has gone from one farm to the other. But it could just as well be from the migratory birds outside. We have a little difficulty finding evidence of where the infection is coming from, says Bente Holst, head of veterinary medicine at the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration, to the television channel.

A protection zone of three kilometers and a surveillance zone of ten kilometers have been established around the farms.
