Man arrested Friday after assault reported: Sarnia police

A 22-year-old man from Aamjiwnaang First Nation has been charged with assault, forcible confinement and other offenses after a violent incident was reported Friday evening, say Sarnia police.

Police said officers were called out at about 7:20 pm Friday and spoke with a woman who said she fled a Tashmoo Avenue residence on the First Nation following a heated argument with the father of her infant child.

It’s alleged there was also a physical altercation where she suffered what police described as minor injuries. It’s alleged she was also confined and threatened with more violence, police said.

The infant remained at the residence after the woman fled and officers, including the city police service’s emergency response team, attended the residence where three men were arrested.

The infant was unharmed, police said.

Police said two of the men were later released unconditionally but one man was charged with assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering death threats, forcible confinement, failing to comply with a judicial release order and possession of a controlled substance.

“As this incident was the result of intimate partner violence, the identity of the accused party will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victim and her child,” police said in a news release.
