(Finance) – The Prime Minister, Georgie Melonspresented the Italian presidency of G7 with a video from Palazzo Chigi. “On 1 January 2024, Italy assumed the Presidency of the G7. We have a great responsibility on our shoulders and we intend to honor it to the best of our ability, demonstrating once again how Italy is capable of charting the course”, he stated. Meloni recalled that the G7 is “the intergovernmental forum born almost fifty years ago and which over time has taken on an irreplaceable role in the defense of the freedom of democracyin managing global challenges”.
“We will host during the year 20 ministerial meetings in a calendar that will touch the entire national territory and we will address issues of strategic importance for our present and our future”, he announced.
“Central – confirmed the Prime Minister – will be the relationship with the developing nations emerging economies with particular attention paid toAfrica because the objective we have set ourselves is to build a model of cooperation between equals that rejects the predatory approach and is capable of offering benefits for all. For this reason, we will also devote great importance to migration issues at the nexus climate–power and to safety food“.
The “central” event will be the leaders’ summit scheduled from 13th to 15th June in Pugliato Village Egnazia, in the marvelous Itria valley, a land surrounded by the Mediterranean, the middle sea in which Italy historically and culturally holds a central position and which connects the two great maritime spaces of the globe: the Atlantic on one side and the Indo-Pacific on the other . The mare nostrum, which we also decided to represent in the G7 logo together with another symbol of our identity, the centuries-old olive tree, with its solid roots anchored in tradition and with its lush foliage projected into the future. Among the branches there are 7 olives representing the 7 nations and their cooperation on global challenges,” he explained.
“Among the challenges at the center of the Italian Presidency there will also be what many consider the most decisive of this time which is theartificial intelligencea technology that can generate great opportunities but also enormous risks as well as impacting global balances: our commitment is to develop governance mechanisms and ensure that artificial intelligence is human-centered and controlled by humans”, he added.
