At the joint press conference held after his meeting with Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajic, Stoltenberg emphasized that Sweden’s participation will make NATO stronger.
Stoltenberg stated that he was “pleased” that Sweden’s membership was accepted in the General Assembly of the Turkish Grand National Assembly and said, “I would also like to thank President (Recep Tayyip) Erdoğan for his quick signature.” said.
Stoltenberg also welcomed the message of support from Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban and his government regarding Sweden’s participation in NATO, adding: “I look forward to Hungary’s approval (of Sweden’s membership) as soon as the Hungarian Parliament meets.” made his assessment.
Informing that the Hungarian Parliament will reconvene at the end of February, Stoltenberg said that this date should be waited for Sweden’s membership.
Montenegrin Prime Minister Spajic also stated that they want Sweden to become a NATO member as soon as possible and that they welcome the “good news” coming from Turkey and Hungary in this process.
Sweden also needs to get approval from the Hungarian parliament for NATO membership.
