Jupiter Ascending is a sci-fi film from the makers of The Matrix with a budget of 175 million dollars – but in the end the film flopped at the box office. As leading actress Mila Kunis revealed, it was clear to the actors from the start that they would not be successful.
Jupiter Ascending was directed by Lana and Lilly Wachowski, who are already known for The Matrix. The sci-fi blockbuster with a budget of around 175 million dollars was released in cinemas in 2015.
However, the film failed both with critics and audiences and proved to be a major flop financially. So he was just able to recoup the production costs. This means that Jupiter Ascending ended up in the list of the most unprofitable films of 2015 among our film release colleagues.

The failure probably came as no surprise to the film’s actors. Because they were already expecting a flop before filming began.
Mila Kunis, who starred in Jupiter Ascending with Jupiter Jones, discussed the sci-fi film on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with host Josh Horowitz.
She said that it was clear to the main actors very early on that Jupiter Ascending would be a flop: “When did we know [dass der Film scheitern würde]? Before we even started shooting, because our production was just cut in half.”
The actress further explained that the film’s budget was originally twice as big. However, it was then cut shortly before the pre-production phase for several reasons.
That was exactly the problem. In their opinion, a much better result could easily have been achieved with a lot more money.
After the budget cut, the film suddenly turned out to be completely different than planned and good content from the script had to be deleted.
Not only Mila Kunis, but also fellow actor Channing Tatum commented negatively on the sci-fi blockbuster in an interview.
The actor told Variety that he had filmed four films in a row without a break, which is why he was no longer able to perform as well as he wanted in the last two projects. He simply lacked energy.
Jupiter Ascending was a nightmare from the start, Tatum said. The actor continued, “It was a side film. We were all at it for seven months, working our butts off. It was just hard.”
