The police suspect that the wave of explosions in Gothenburg is connected.
According to information to Aftonbladet, it is about an escalating internal gang conflict.
One of the victims is a relative of a gang criminal who is wanted internationally. According to Aftonbladet’s information, the gang member is believed to be in Turkey.
Western Sweden has been hit by several bombings in the past month. The first took place on New Year’s Eve, December 31.
That explosion was reportedly aimed at a relative of a 32-year-old leader in a criminal network. But the 32-year-old himself has fled the country. He has been wanted internationally for some time now, and according to information given to Aftonbladet, the police believe he is in Turkey.
He appears in investigations and has been convicted of minor crimes in recent years. He has previously been convicted of aggravated assault. Recently, he was suspected of violent rioting, but the charges against him were dismissed.
According to information to Aftonbladet, the wanted 32-year-old has ended up in a conflict with another actor in Gothenburg’s underworld. The conflict is believed to have been the starting point for an internal spiral of violence around the drug market in the region.
After the attack on New Year’s Eve, four more bombings have taken place – within the space of just eleven days.
An explosion occurred in the Mölndal area and caused extensive damage to the property and cars near the site. According to information to Aftonbladet, a 30-year-old man is the likely target.
A bomb exploded at a residence in Västra Frölunda. Several people were at home, but all are uninjured. The likely target was a man with connections to the person who was targeted in the bombing four days earlier.
An explosion occurred in the municipality of Tjörn. According to information, it is pointed out as an act of revenge after the explosion on New Year’s Eve.
A gate was blown up in the Majorna area of Gothenburg. An outer gate was blown up and several windows were smashed. According to information to the GP, the crime must have been directed against a relative of the 30-year-old man who was the target of the crime on January 2.
Investigated under the same “umbrella”
Christian Nylén is the local police chief in the area south of Gothenburg.
– One of the theories is that there is a connection. It has to do with a rather tight time frame and the fact that it is a similar mode. It is not the only theory that we have, but of course we are looking at whether there is a connection, says Christian Nylén.
Anna Bergkvist is group leader and investigation leader at the section against serious crimes at the investigation unit in region west. She says the following about connections between the events:
– Given that the events are similar and have happened recently, we are investigating whether there are connections between them, so it remains to be seen.
She does not want to comment on anything about targets.
– We cannot comment on that type of information, says Anna Bergkvist.
