The Hungarian government wants Sweden to join NATO.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán also wants that.

Now he has to get the National Assembly to vote yes.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán says his government supports Swedish NATO membership.

He writes that on X.

According to Orbán, he is said to have spoken on the phone with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Wednesday, where he assured Stoltenberg that the Hungarian government stands behind the Swedish NATO application.

“I also emphasized that we will continue to urge the Hungarian National Assembly to vote for Sweden’s accession and complete the ratification as soon as possible,” he writes.

It is only Hungary and Turkey that have not yet approved Sweden’s NATO application. Hungary has previously said that it does not want to be last.

On Tuesday, the Turkish parliament voted yes to admitting Sweden to the alliance. The only thing that remains from the Turkish side is for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to sign the decision.
