Several political parties are choosing to field very young candidates for the European elections, when they are not at the head of the list.
The last European election of 2019 had already marked the rise of several young political figures. The National Rally entrusted its head of list to Jordan Bardella, then aged 23, while La France insoumise nominated Manon Aubry, 29 years old. On the LR side, it was François-Xavier Bellamy, 33, who was named to lead the list. Five years later, the trend is becoming even more evident and new personalities are emerging.
In the Communist Party, it is Léon Deffontaines who will be the head of the list for the election on June 9. The 28-year-old young man was secretary general of the Young Communists from 2019 to 2023. For him, the arrival of young people in elected positions is excellent news: “The Europe to which we aspire is built over time long. This is why we need young people to carry this vision”, he confides to Figaro.
The youngest candidate is 20 years old
The future youngest member of the European Parliament could well find himself in the camp of French environmentalists. Amine Kessaci, 20 years old, appears tenth on Marie Toussaint’s list, a place which makes him eligible. Another likely candidate for the Europeans, the boss of Youth with Macron Ambroise Méjean, aged 28. Let us add, for LR, the leader of the Young Republicans Guilhem Carayon, 24 years old.
As for Reconquête, Stanislas Rigault, 24 years old, will probably appear in a good position on the list led by Marion Maréchal, herself aged 34. Without forgetting Jordan Bardella, who at the age of 28 takes over the head of the National Rally list, given the big favorite in these elections.
