The new survival game Nightingale has shown more of its gameplay. There was also a multiplayer battle against a huge monster.
What is Nightingale? Nightingale (Steam) is an upcoming PvE survival game from Inflexion Games that can be played solo or co-op. The setting of the title is based on a Victorian fantasy world with elements of industrialized England. There will also be fairy creatures and monsters.
In terms of gameplay, Nightingale’s focus is on exploration, crafting and collaborative building. Your goal is to explore a new world and start a life there.
However, survival in the new world is not without danger and new dangers threaten everywhere. In a new preview we have now learned a little more about the special features of this world and its circumstances.
What did the preview show? Inflexion Games has already let IGN take a look at Nightingale and publish a preview of the game.
In the first 2 minutes of the video we get to know Puck, who explains the world of the survival game to you. Shortly afterwards we see a fight against a pack of wolves, fishing with a fishing rod and Mary Poppins-like gliding with an umbrella.
Overall, we get a rough overview of various features of the game, including how magic works, the creation of procedurally generated realms and the multiplayer hunt for apex creatures.
If you want to take a look at the YouTube video yourself, we’ll embed it here for you:
Preview gives insights into monsters, the realm cards and the magic system
What does the preview tell us about the monsters? Nightingale will feature giant monsters called apex creatures that you can hunt and defeat in multiplayer battles.
Fighting an Apex creature is structured like a boss fight. Accordingly, you have to act in a coordinated manner and expect unforeseen chaos. But if you manage to defeat such an apex creature, you can expect worthwhile rewards.
According to IGN, it is also possible to encounter apex creatures in the so-called vaults as a final boss fight. Vaults are procedurally generated dungeons that are structured somewhat like the strikes in Destiny 2. So you run from A to B, killing everything on the way and fighting an apex creature at the end.
What does the preview of the maps tell us? As the game progresses, you will unlock the ability to open portals to new worlds using the so-called Realm Cards. This was already known, but the preview once again illustrated how the principle behind it works.
The most important thing you should understand is that several cards can be combined per portal. The maps then created, to which you can travel through these portals, are completely procedurally generated based on the maps you choose.
There are three types of cards in total: Biome, Major and Minor, with a Biome and a Major card required to open a portal.
The preview also told us that the eponymous city of Nightingale, which is our main goal in the survival game, will not yet exist in the early access phase of the game.
What does the preview tell us about magic? According to the preview, it is not possible for humans to create items using magic alone. Instead, in Nightingale you have to collect and craft materials to enchant items with.
So you can only use magic while using an enchanted weapon, for example.
By the way, Nightingale is a game that completely avoids PvP. So you will never have to use your magical weapons against players. You can find more survival games that only rely on PvE here: 7 peaceful survival games that don’t require any PvP – for Steam, PlayStation and Xbox
