Ristomatti Hakola gave Viaplay a harsh review – Perttu Hyvärinen messed up the ending: “We will fight in the camp” | Sport

Finnish men had a strong contribution in Oberhof’s 20-kilometer traditional cross-country start race, as two skiers made it into the top ten.

Perttu Hyvärinen answered for the best place, being sixth, Cross mat Hakola was ninth. The two made out at the end and joked with each other in interviews. According to Hakola, Hyvärinen managed to block him in the book.

Hyvärinen admitted in an interview with Viaplay that he wasn’t hunting for extra points, but they came by accident. He also recounted his fall.

– Someone fell in front, directly into the mine. The poles remained intact, so I could continue. I thought that was it for the day, let’s ski a couple of laps in peace. Then all of a sudden I was in the bow, yes there were spaces there, Hyvärinen said.

According to Hyvärinen, Oberhof’s track was wide and the headwind interfered in several places, so many people were looking for wide backs for peeing. In the final straight, Hyvärinen got up well to fight for the prize places, but was 0.6 seconds behind.

– At the end of the day, that result is quite disappointing, I just couldn’t find a better one at the end. Basically, I’m in such condition that I should be able to fight for the podium, Hyvärinen said.

– Couldn’t find a suitable gap in it. I tried to get into the pees, it didn’t quite hit. To be honest, I was pretty upset.

Hakola, like several other skiers, complained about the headwind, even though he said that he skied under the protection of others. He estimates that he could have had a chance even up to the podium if the final step markers had been better.

– The end is sad, there was no lane. It could have been a better ranking, but this is skiing.

Hakola had to ski the race on borrowed skis, as his equipment did not arrive at Frankfurt airport.

– Pera is a bit fatter. Maybe I had to apply a little too much grip, the skids suffered because of it, Hakola joked to Viaplay.

Niskanen exorcises tactics, Kläbo still finds it difficult

From the beginning kept the pace Iivo Niskanen fell to 11th in the final standings. However, Niskanen’s speed took away the edge from many early favorites. – It was a good bet, but a bad tactic. Should have saved everything for the end. In vain I was four times in front of it on the headwind section. However, I tried to ski with the wrong puck for the win. It was kind of all or nothing at that point. Then there were no bangs at the end.

Kläbo was already finnishing himself after the sprint race, where he was left out of the final for the first time since 2018. Now he told Viaplay that the situation has not improved at all.

– It was difficult from the first meters. The first hill was tough. I skied poorly technically. Now we have to come up with something clever in the next few weeks, Kläbo said.

– I’m getting used to this. I’ve felt like this all winter, except for one weekend.

Arsi Ruuskanen lost to Kläbo by only 0.2 seconds and was 18th, Lauri Vuorinen was the 24th and Markus Vuorela 27:s.
