Diablo 4 starts its third season on January 23rd. The announcements about the content and changes seem to make players optimistic; many are looking forward to the new season, but others are skeptical.
In the stream on January 18, 2024, the developers talked about their plans for Season 3 in Diablo 4. They gave more information about the Seneschal companion, which you can reinforce with stones, but also about the leaderboards that will be added over the course of the season become.
In addition to the features, the “Quality of Life” improvements are also well received by many players, including the announced WASD control for the PC. On Reddit, user “Tiger_Widow” wrote on January 18th that he was looking forward to the new season. He has the feeling that Diablo 4 has “both feet on the ground”.
Some users agree with him, others criticize the announcements and want further functions and adjustments.
“It’s like they kept the good parts and fleshed them out.”
Why does Season 3 sound like a win? On Reddit on January 18, “Tiger_Widow” wrote, “Season 3 sounds like a huge W [Win] and Diablo 4 feels like it’s really starting to take off now.”
In the post he writes:
I’m very happy with the developer stream and how the game is developing. It was a rocky start for sure, but it honestly feels like the game has both feet on the ground now. I’m really looking forward to Season 3, which I didn’t feel that way about the previous seasons.
In the comments, individual users ask what exactly they are happy about. “Tiger_Widow” writes: “The companion mini-game. I love the insight we get into the attacks […] got. I can imagine I’ll be a lot more interested in these glyphs [Steinen] more crafting than I probably should, lol.”
The user “S1mpinAintEZ” writes in the comment: “I agree. I wanted to give up after Season 1, but I’m glad I gave it another try because the game feels much better than before. I don’t know what I think about the companion thing yet. I don’t usually like the minion builds, but we’ll see.”
“Tiger_Widow” replies:
Exactly. The blood harvest was so much fun, which was a win for me. Bigger packs, a better feel, faster gameplay. Higher drop chance on Ubers, target farming, realistic boss runs related to said target farming. And now Season 3 feels like they’ve kept all the good parts and fleshed it out even more.
In another comment, the post creator notes that you can tell that the developers really listen to feedback and take it seriously, which is commendable. He also sees the implementation of WASD control as a “game changer.” And “ikazuki404” notes that he has wanted WASD since 2017, “that’s great.”
“Many fundamental problems need to be addressed”
What is being criticized? Not all users agree with “Tiger_Widow”. Some write that the “real test” will only come with Season 4 and the revision of the item system. “Sansaset” writes on Reddit that the loot part is currently uninteresting and there is also a lack of build diversity.
“Soresu0203” criticizes that the best loot still comes from the same grind on Uber Duriel. Also, there are still issues with minion builds and seeing all chests in Hellflood.
“SamMerlini” adds in the comment: “Too slow, too little. The [neuen] Mechanics sound fun, but many fundamental issues need to be addressed. Being able to change builds, zoom out, more chest space, social skills.”
