Yellowstone maker wants to film a Western epic about a 40-year conflict, although he is currently working on 8 series at the same time

Taylor Sheridan is currently the busiest series creator in Hollywood. In addition to his western drama Yellowstone, which recently started with the first 3 seasons on Netflix, he is currently also involved in four Yellowstone spin-offs as well as the series Tulsa King, Mayor Of Kingstown and the upcoming series project Land Man. As if that wasn’t enough, it’s already announced his next western epic.

Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan is filming a western epic about Comanches

As the industry website Deadline reports, Taylor Sheridan recently secured the film rights to SC Gwynne’s non-fiction book Empire of the Summer Moon – not to be confused with Killers of the Flower Moon. The long additional title is: Quanah Parker and the Rise and Fall of the Comanches, the Most Powerful Indian Tribe in American History. Sheridan wants to write and direct the adaptation himself.

Empire of the Summer Moon tells, among other things the story of the real-life Comanche leader Quanah Parker, who united several tribes in the 19th century to resist the settlement of Texas. The conflict between the Comanches and white settlers depicted in the book spans around 40 years.

For Taylor Sheridan, Empire of the Summer Moon a passion project with personal connections be. In May 2021, Sheridan and other partners purchased the 6666 Ranch in Texas, which also plays a role in Yellowstone. The founder of this ranch, Samuel Burnett, was a friend of Quanah’s and bought the piece of land from the Comanches.

When does Empire of the Summer Moon from Yellowstone maker start?

It is not yet known whether the project will be realized as a film or series. However, the scope of the story would best lend itself to a serial narrative. First of all, Taylor Sheridan only secured the adaptation rights. It could take until Empire of the Summer Moon actually appears 2025 or 2026 last.
