This spring it was total darkness for Brynäs IF, who left the Swedish top league after 63 years at the highest level. But this year’s season has been all the more fun for the Gävle team, which tops the table – six points ahead of chasing Södertälje.
But during the Friday evening they are put to the test when they head to Södertälje for something of an early series finale in a meeting that is framed by studio broadcasting starting at 18:30. There is also much to suggest that it will be an entertaining match between the series’ two most goal-happy teams, with Brynäs having scored 128 goals and Södertälje 120 goals in their opening 33 matches.
Can Björklöven take the chance?
At the same time as the summit in Scaniarink is looming, table four Björklöven has the chance to push into the top. With four points up to second-placed Södertälje, the Umeå team has a golden chance to shrink the distance when they visit Tingsryd, which is in “no man’s land”.
Björklöven has managed to scrape together 58 points in his opening 35 games, a score to which the Canadian Miles Powell has been a strong contributor. The 29-year-old forward still tops the overall scoring league with his 39 points.
Important fight at the line
Nybro Vikings has been a breath of fresh air since promotion to the Hockeyallsvenskan and is currently only one point behind Mora in the sixth and final playoff spot.
During the Friday evening, Mora is the guest in a meeting that may turn out to be extremely important when it is time to sum up the regular season in mid-March.
