The end of The Dark Knight Rises actually seems as if a sequel was being prepared here. But despite this, Christopher Nolan never made a fourth part of the acclaimed and successful Batman trilogy. Watch the finale on TV today.
That’s what The Dark Knight Rises is about
After Batman (Christian Bale) has already had to deal with the crazy Joker (Heath Ledger) in The Dark Knight, he leaves the next villain in the form of Bane (Tom Hardy) a completely different path. Where the Joker was unpredictable, Bane is menacing because of two things: his ability to inspire crowds and his sheer physical presence.
Bane is a ruthless mercenary and terrorist. He not only wants to take Gotham City under his control, but also wants to break Batman – literally. This ensures that Bruce Wayne finally emerges from obscurity after eight years and, among other things, gets support from the mysterious Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway).

Despite gigantic success, there were only three Batman parts by Christopher Nolan
At the end of The Dark Knight Rises, Bruce Wayne apparently really goes into his well-deserved retirement. In addition, his possible successor or Sidekick Robin teased. The last two parts of the Dark Knight trilogy were a huge success at the box office, as The Numbers shows.
But still there never was a sequel and Christian Bale (via Toronto Sun) has a simple reason for that: Christopher Nolan didn’t initially plan a trilogy. It was only thanks to the promising box office results that further sequels were commissioned. Accordingly, the story ends at a dramaturgically sensible point and ignores further franchise plans.
