Stating that the epidemic is a situation that the society is more sensitive about after Covid-19, Memişoğlu explained that under normal conditions, especially in November, December, January and February, there is a period in which diseases such as cold, flu and angina, which are called upper respiratory tract infections, increase. .
Emphasizing that chills and colds increase in cold weather, Memişoğlu said, “It is also present in this period. Naturally, we have been especially busy in the last few weeks. It was there in the past, it is still there now. This is mostly the flu virus, which we call influenza. But it is also in the upper respiratory tract, where other viruses are also present.” “We are living in a period where infections are increasing.” he said.

Memişoğlu said that these upper respiratory tract infections do not cause much damage or permanent damage in young, healthy people, but they become risky especially in the elderly or those with co-morbidities, kidney failure, diabetes and overweight.
Stating that intensive care or one-to-one support treatment may be needed, especially in those with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), Memişoğlu said, “Naturally, we are experiencing congestion in Istanbul. But we, as our infrastructure and our physicians, have proven how strong the health system in Covid is.” “We will overcome this too, and we are.” he said.
