The man was taken to Bluewater Health and transferred to Victoria Hospital in London for specialized trauma care, police said. He’s expected to survive, but is at serious risk of life-altering injuries.

“The nature of this young man’s potential injuries are appalling, with lasting ramifications for both him and his family,” Police Chief Derek Davis said in a statement.

“The victim remains under medical care in hospital,” Julie Craddock, Sarnia’s deputy police chief, said in an email. “In order to protect his personal medical information, we will not be releasing further details.”

Meanwhile, the same court document says Dillon Gray-Vail, the 20-year-old Sarnia man charged with attempted murder, had multiple court-ordered bans on weapons in place at the time. Gray-Vail was arrested Saturday night following a large city-wide probe and charged with attempted murder, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, failing to comply with a release order, and four counts of failing to comply with probation, police said.

Records show two of the alleged probation breaches and the release order charge are linked to an earlier weapons ban.

Police previously said the victim had been cycling on Devine Street when he encountered two other males. They spoke, a physical confrontation ensued and one suspect stabbed the victim in the back of the neck, police said. Both suspects fled on foot.

Two men in their early 20s were initially charged with attempted murder, but a second suspect was quickly cleared.

The charges against Gray-Vail haven’t been tested in court.
