Ebba Andersson is back in the World Cup.
The star is doing his first competition since the Tour de Ski flop.
– It was a mangled body and bud, she tells P4 Västernorrland.
Ebba Andersson was perhaps Sweden’s biggest hope in the Tour de Ski, but shortly before the competitions started, the nightmare news came; Ebba Andersson had tested positive for Covid-19. It was doubtful for a long time whether she would even make it to the start, but Andersson recovered and gave it a try.
Ebba’s first words
But she was unrecognizable at all. The tour was a single big disappointment for Ebba, who was eventually forced to break before all the competitions were completed. She was not fully recovered, and has since only had to focus on finding her form again through training. But at the weekend she is back again. Ebba Andersson was in the Swedish squad for the competitions in Oberhof this weekend.
But what about the shape? Ebba Andersson is now talking, for the first time since the disappointment in the tour, about the hopes for this weekend’s World Cup competitions.
– Yes, say it! First of all, it feels better than when I finished, because it was quite a ragged body and bud that came home from the Tour de Ski, she tells P4 Västernorrland.
“It was a pancake”
For Ebba Andersson, the last few weeks have mostly been about getting over the disappointment that the tour was, and she can state that the timing could not have been worse.
– It was really bad timing. It was frustrating then and there, but in retrospect it’s probably more like… it’s a shame that it turned out to be the pancake it turned out to be, she says.
Last year, Ebba Andersson had a similar situation. She came back from illness – and won the subsequent 20 kilometer race. This weekend, the same race awaits.
– It was Covid that I had also recovered from that time, but regardless, I now feel that I am ready to compete again. Pretty good hopes based on how I think the body has responded to the last week’s training.
