Last year we got three really good shooters with BattleBit Remastered, Remnant 2 and The Finals. The coming year also has a few exciting titles in store. We at MeinMMO are therefore showing you x shooters that you can look forward to in 2024.
What kind of shooters are these? We looked at which shooters will appear in 2024 and compiled the most promising ones. The selection is a personal assessment of the author.
When selecting the shooters, however, we did not limit ourselves to a specific subgenre, but rather drew from the entire pool of shooters. Accordingly, you will find both PvE or co-op shooters as well as PvP and tactical shooters in this list. Single player games are also available.
On the last page you will also find some shooters that didn’t make it into our top 10, but we didn’t want to withhold them from you.
XDefiant
Developer: Ubisoft | Release: 2024 | Model: Free to play | Plattices: PC, Xbox Series X|S |
Player: Multiplayer | Subgenre: Arena shooter | Mode: PvP | Perspective: First person |
This is XDefiant: In XDefiant you pick up one of five classes – called factions – and plunge into the PvP fray. You play different modes such as zone dominance or payload (escort) and show which team is better on different maps.
Each faction has class-specific gadgets. There were also 24 weapons in the open beta, on which you can exchange 5 of a total of 7 components. There are 44 different attachments available to you, with which you can change factors such as the rate of fire, the damage at short or medium distances and the time to aim.
The shooter’s playable classes come from various Ubisoft games. In the various beta tests of XDefiant there were:
XDefiant was supposed to be released as a Free2Play title in summer 2023, but was postponed. A release in 2024 is now planned.
What do we expect from XDefiant: What we expect from XDefiant is above all fast-paced and action-packed PvP battles with fast movement and simple and innovative weapon handling.
In general, XDefiant is seen as a competitor to Call of Duty, but does without the controversial SBMM in casual modes. This will only be available in Ranked. So we expect the matches to be significantly looser or more relaxed than in modern CoDs.
ALARA Prime
Developer: Case Damage | Release: 2024 | Model: Free to play | Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X|S |
Player: Multiplayer | Subgenre: Tactical shooter | Mode: PvP | Perspective: First person |
This is ALARA Prime: ALARA Prime will be a competitive Takitk shooter scheduled for release on Steam in 2024. The goal of the shooter is to play a specific objective – for example, to defend or capture a specific area.
The gameplay is reminiscent of other tactical shooters such as CS2 or Valorant, but ALARA Prime has a special trick: it is played 4v4v4. Instead of two teams of 5, three teams of 4 compete against each other.
In a playful way, the title relies on a first-person perspective and lets you choose a class and use various gadgets in the fight against the other teams.
In addition, the movement and gunplay of ALARA Prime in the first gameplay trailer are more reminiscent of shooters like CoD or Battlefield. This means that most of the gunplay takes place in the sights and you can move while shooting – so press “a” and “d” diligently.
What do we expect from ALARA Prime? Above all, chaos. When three teams fight for one goal instead of four, things quickly become chaotic. The shooter The Finals, which was released in December 2023, showed us this.
There will likely be frequent situations where the third team waits while the other two teams battle it out. Then it’s a matter of waiting to shoot both teams in the back at the right moment and win the round.
It will also be interesting to see how the various gadgets can be used to gain a tactical advantage over the competitors.
Beautiful light
Developer: Deep Worlds SA | Release: End of 2024 | Model: Buy to play | Platforms: PC |
Player: Multiplayer | Subgenre: Extraction shooter | Mode: PvEvP | Perspective: First person |
What is Beautiful Light? Beautiful Light is an extraction shooter that mixes realistic graphics with horror elements such as zombie-like monsters. The maps are based on destroyed and overgrown buildings, forests and modern research laboratories.
In terms of play, communication will be important in Beautiful Light, as the shooter doesn’t take you by the hand and includes some hardcore aspects. For example, your teammates are not displayed with a colored border. Since there will also be PvP in addition to PvE, you have to clearly communicate what you see and where you are – otherwise you’ll accidentally shoot a friend over the head.
On social networks, Beautiful Light is repeatedly described as a mixture of Escape from Tarkov and STALKER.
What do we expect from Beautiful Light? An important part of the gameplay will be the sound design. This doesn’t just rely on loud footstep noises and weapon sounds that rattle a lot. The ambient noises such as screaming monsters also contribute an important part to the atmosphere of the shooter.
Accordingly, you can expect a fairly dark setting in which the various sound effects contribute to your gaming experience. We expect a particularly exciting experience when other players appear in addition to the monsters and Beautiful Light suddenly plays like a military simulation.
Gray Zone Warfare
Developer: MADFINGER Games | Release: 2024 | Model: Buy to play | Platforms: PC (STeam) |
Player: Multiplayer | Subgenre: Tactical shooter | Mode: PvE, PvP | Perspective: First person |
This is Gray Zone Warfare: Gray Zone Warfare is a realistic tactical shooter with extraction mechanics and PvE and PvP. The game relies on graphics that are as realistic as possible, weapon models, movement sequences and injuries that cause you bleeding wounds or affect your limbs and organs. There are no tools such as a digital crosshair or a minimap.
The gameplay of Gray Zone Warfare is reminiscent of other extraction shooters: As a member of a private military company, you roam a certain area and try to complete certain orders in teams of four. For example, these require you to find a specific object on the map and get it out of the operational area. There probably shouldn’t be any missions that require you to eliminate other players.
On each run you start from a base that is outside the critical zone. Afterwards, in a short cutscene, you get into a helicopter and fly into the operational area. When you arrive at the landing point, you leave the helicopter and roam the map. You can meet enemies at any time. There are other human players and NPC opponents who are differently equipped and trained to provide a variable level of difficulty.
There should be a total of 48 players on one map. These are divided into 3 factions – i.e. 16 players per faction. Each faction also consists of 3 squads with 4 players each. Once you have everything you need to complete a mission, return to a landing pad and fly to the base in a helicopter. There should be no timer until your extraction.
What do we expect from Gray Zone Warfare? We expect gameplay to be as realistic and tactical as possible, which never takes us by the hand and presents us with a challenge.
The constant threat from players and NPCs provides a certain level of tension with every run. We don’t know what awaits us behind the next bush or in a house.
The encounters with other players are particularly exciting. We see them, but have they seen us? Do we open fire or do we let them go and take care of our mission? These are all decisions that we make ourselves and from which we hope for a special gaming experience.
Robobeat
Developer: Simon Fredholm | Release: 2024 | Model: | Platforms: PC |
Player: Single player | Subgenre: Rhythm Shooter | Mode: PvE | Perspective: First person |
This is Robobeat: Robobeat is a rhythm shooter. This means you have to fire your shots in time with the beat. If you shoot in time, you can, for example, maximize your damage or shorten your cooldown.
Robobeat also offers various firearms and melee weapons and relies on fast and diverse movement. You can slide, jump and run along walls.
The shooter’s levels are procedurally generated, with the environment and graphics adapting to the music. The developers also promise that you can alternatively upload your own music and the game will generate corresponding beats.
What we expect from Robobeat: From Robobeat we expect a colorful setting, loud music and lots of action. If you’re looking for a more quiet and relaxed shooter, you’re probably in the wrong place here.
In terms of play, the most important thing is the movement and your sense of tact. You have to manage to get into the flow of the music and fire your shots to the beat even during wall runs.
