Icelands volcanic eruption subsided Foreign countries

Yesterday, lava set houses on fire in the small town of Grindavík.

The volcanic eruption that started yesterday in Iceland has subsided. Lava was still coming out of the volcano this morning, but clearly less than yesterday.

A geophysicist interviewed by Uutistoimisto AP Magnus Tumi Gudmundsson said the eruption had diminished considerably. However, according to the expert, it was impossible to estimate when the eruption will end.

The lava that erupted yesterday set several houses on fire in the small town of Grindavík. Residents were ordered to leave Grindavík due to the dangerous situation. The evacuation of approximately 4,000 residents is scheduled to take three weeks.

Rescue workers have built ramparts outside Grindavík to prevent the lava from spreading.

The volcano erupted for the second time in a month. After the previous eruption, residents were able to return to their homes on December 23. Grindavik is located about 40 kilometers from the capital Reykjavik.
