More than one in three Swedes have become more worried about war after Commander-in-Chief Micael Bydén’s statement this week.
This is shown by a survey from Verian, formerly Kantar, which TV4 Nyheterna commissioned.
At the same time, just over half think that the outcome was right.
During the People and Defense conference earlier this week, ÖB and the government said that there could be war in Sweden and that the Swedes must be mentally prepared for it.
– Absolutely, it’s a big threat to us, because we live right by the water. It is just the perfect place for the enemy to attack, says Stockholm resident Ronny Lövdahl.
ÖB’s actions have attracted a lot of attention, and in a new survey from Verian, 38 percent of Swedes respond that the statements have made them more worried that Sweden could be drawn into war. 57 percent of the respondents answered that they had not been affected.
Many support ÖB’s statement
One who is not affected by the outcome is Alexandra Renfors.
– No, I don’t think I was influenced by the statement. Then I am a realist and have had a thought in recent years that there is a possibility that it could be so. But it has not increased in the last week, she says.
At the same time, roughly half of Swedes state that it was right for ÖB and leading ministers to make these statements, while one in four thinks it was wrong.
– Now in this case, it is a military person who spoke out, and I am glad that the military expressed themselves that way, because that is what they are supposed to do, says Karin Wellander.
