The Israeli government states that Hamas has intended to attack the Israeli embassy in Stockholm.

If the information is correct, it means that Hamas has changed since the outbreak of the Gaza war, according to Aron Lund, Middle East analyst at FOI.

– What applied before October 7 may no longer apply.

There is a history of Israeli interests in various parts of the world becoming targets for Palestinian armed groups, but terrorist-branded Hamas has no history of carrying out attacks abroad, according to Aron Lund. But it could be that the group has undergone changes.

– I would raise my eyebrows if Hamas has done something like this, on the other hand, so much has happened since October 7th, so it cannot be ruled out that the organization or parts of it have changed, and may be doing things that are not should have been done earlier, says Lund, referring to the date of the outbreak of war.

However, Lund thinks that the statement should be seen as a party submission from one of two parties in the war.

– I think it is wisest to wait and hear what the Swedish authorities have to say about this.
