Alexis Pinturaults crash stopped the race and silenced EPNs newsroom

Frenchman Alexis Pinturault fell badly in the Wengen World Cup super giant slalom race. He was moved from the slope by helicopter.

by Alexis Pinturault the race in Wengen’s super-G ended with an ominous crash. The Frenchman, who has focused on speed sports this season, lost his balance after the jump and fell at the end of the slope.

Sports expert Marcus Sandell and narrator Nina Vanhatalok too were horrified by the fall of Pinturault.

– This now looks bad, Vanhatalo stated.

– No damn, Sandell breathed.

Sandell reminded that Pinturault’s speed was over one hundred kilometers per hour when his ski caught, so the skier had no chance to react.

– It looked badly as if the knee had gone, Sandell stated.

Pinturault, 32, who became a father for the first time six days ago, is a multiple medalist in the prestigious competition. In his career, he has won, among other things, three Olympic gold medals. Pinturault has won 34 World Cup races and one of these has come in super-G. At last year’s World Championships, he won bronze in the super-G.

– We know that he was conscious, and that is the most important thing. This victory is for him, the winner of the race and just a few minutes ahead of Pinturault Cyprien Sarrazin told the Swiss RTS.

The victory was the third of Sarrazin’s career and the second this season. The Frenchman was also number one in Bormio’s plunge. Switzerland came second in the race Marco Odermatt (+0.58) and third is Norway Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (+1.00).

Yesterday’s skydiving competition in Wengen also saw a bad fall. Swiss Marco Kohler injured his right knee in the situation and his season is over.

The race was suspended for 25 minutes while the race organizers waited for the helicopter to arrive.

The French Ski Federation later announced that Pinturault had torn the cruciate ligament in his left knee and his season was over.

Elian Lehto sent his father birthday wishes

Elian Lehto was disappointed both in Wengen’s jump (35th) and in the super giant slalom, because today he barely missed the World Cup points. Lehto was 32nd in the final results.

Lehto had difficulties, for example, in the big jump at the beginning, where Marcus Sandell thought the effort went wrong.

– It wasn’t the longest jump of the day, but the coolest of the day, Sandell said.

At the finish line, Lehto remembered today’s birthday hero, his father Jukka Lehtoa.

– Greetings to faija. Happy birthday, Lehto said, waving to the camera.

The women’s super giant slalom was counted down today in Zauchensee, Austria. Austria won that race Cornelia Hütter before Norway Kajsa Lietä and Switzerland Lara Gut-Behramia. A helicopter was also needed in the women’s race, because the Austrian Nadine Fest hurt his knee after falling and couldn’t get down the slope on his own.
