Wolfgang Pichler does not mince his words.
He feels sorry for Stina Nilsson.
– Now she is nothing, says the demon coach to Expressen.
There are many who have reacted strongly to the lack of success since Stina Nilsson left cross-country skiing for a venture into biathlon. In the past year, Nilsson has been pushed out of the WC and the World Cup, and instead she has had to focus almost exclusively on competitions in the IBU Cup.
New sawing
Nilsson does have a number of podium places there after Christmas, but she still mixes and gives a lot, which has given experts a headache. A few days ago, Wolfgang Pichler came out with a real outburst about the star, when he said that Sweden does not need her, and that she is simply not good enough.
Now Wolfgang Pichler comes with yet another sawing of Nilsson, and above all it is her weak driving times that baffle him.
– She beat Therese Johaug over the five kilometer relay. No one can say she can’t freestyle, this person has got something, but I don’t understand why she skates so badly. It’s really bad, he tells Expressen.
“Too bad about her”
Wolfgang Pichler simply means that he feels sorry for her.
– I feel sorry for Stina. You have to be able to see two things here, one problem is that she is in a strong national team. If I had had Stina in 2006-2008, I would have taken her to the World Cup and she would have gained more experience and gotten better and better, he says and continues:
– Now she is in a situation where she has to show results because Sweden has five or six good women’s skiers. The name Stina Nilsson is not interesting, the performance must show it. A coach must always do what is best for the team and Stina has pressure on her in my eyes, but my feeling is that she has learned to shoot better and that is positive.
Pichler believes that there is a lot going wrong for her, and that she is now “nothing”.
– She was the best in the world, Olympic champion and had exactly everything you need. I have spoken to her once and then she said that she is very up and down, the pressure may be too great on her from the media, everyone is talking about Stina Nilsson, but now she is nothing.
