Among the ten executives and former civil servants arrested, the outgoing Director General of the Mali energy company (EDM). The hearings will continue this Thursday. Justice qualifies the facts as “forgery, use of forgery” and “attack on public property”.

Certain executives of the company are said to have set up “ a real mafia network “. For example, while the generators must run on fuel oil (less expensive), company officials reportedly put diesel, which costs more, in the engines. In 2022, the company’s so-called “additional” unjustified invoices amounted to 18 billion CFA francs.

EDM is crumbling under the weight of debt, which today is around 600 billion CFA francs. At the moment, the State almost no longer has the means to pay suppliers. Faced with the discontent of populations plunged into darkness the file of the energy company of Mali » nicknamed « evil energy company » is now managed at the top of the state.
