These 10 films and series will come from the galaxy far, far away from 2024

It’s been over 4 years since the last Star Wars film, The Rise of Skywalker, was shown in cinemas. Since then, the franchise has flourished exclusively in series form on Disney+. But the return to the big screen was plagued by uncertainty. Many new Star Wars projects have been announced and even more rejected. But what’s really coming?

One thing is certain: Star Wars will soon continue in the cinema. The actual plan to open the new screen era with the return of Rey Skywalker was recently scrapped. Instead, a Mandalorian adventure should come first. There are also a number of new Star Wars series on Disney+.

The series from Leslye Headland (Netflix’s Matryoshka) is the first live-action project set in the High Republic era, 100 years from Star Wars: Episode I. Inspired by martial arts films, we follow a Jedi padawan team into a dark conspiracy with numerous lightsaber fights. The cast includes Amandla Stenberg (The Hunger Games), Dafne Keen (Logan), Carrie-Anne Moss (Matrix) and Squid Game star Jung-Jae Lee.

What is Star Wars: Skeleton Crew?

The Amazing Spider-Man director Jon Watts and screenwriter Chris Ford are behind the coming-of-age adventure that takes a group of children across the galaxy in search of home. Jude Law will be a prominent accompaniment to the young cast. The Skeleton Crew series is set in the Mandoverse, at the time of the New Republic.

2025 and beyond: These new Star Wars films and series are supposed to come

Since the end of the latest Skywalker trilogy, the cinematic future of the star saga has been one of ups and downs. Films like Rogue Squadron were announced and never made. But it is now clear that Lucasfilm and Disney have four projects in development that really should come. Two of them will be filmed this year.

The Mandalorian & Grogu

  • The Mandalorian & Grogu: The first big screen adventure of Din Djarin and Grogu aka Baby Yoda will go into production in 2024 and could be targeting a release in 2025 or 2026.
  • Star Wars 10: New Jedi Order: Rey Skywalker’s Return begins the era of a new Jedi Order 15 years after Episode 9. Production starts in 2024 and will probably be in cinemas in 2025 or 2026.
  • Untitled Dave Filoni Star Wars Project: Dave Filoni is not only responsible for the creative direction of the franchise, but will also direct a cinematic spectacle that brings together the series of the Mandoverse. Could start in 2027.
  • Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi: James Mangold’s film takes us 25,000 years into the past. The film is currently in development and could start in 2027.
  • Disney currently has three release dates set for upcoming Star Wars films in its release calendar: May 2026, December 2026 and December 2027. It is not yet known which films will take these places. Aside from the cinema excursions, we will continue to be able to immerse ourselves in the galaxy far, far away on Disney+ in the future.

    However, the current status of The Mandalorian series is still unclear. Since the adventures of Din Djarin and Grogu continue in the cinema, it is currently unclear whether a 4th season will actually come. Alternatively could The Mandalorian Season 4 Of course, another Mandalorian main character, such as Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff), takes center stage. This was already indicated in season 3.

    There are also a few other ideas circulating at Lucasfilm about possible upcoming projects, although they are not on the current official development plan or have not yet been announced. We will update this overview as more series and films for the Star Wars future are revealed.
