In the Netherlands, an average of 2.5 million Christmas trees are thrown away every year. They are increasingly given a second life. In the municipality of Utrecht, the collected trees are processed into compost, in Aagtekerke in Zeeland alpacas happy of their new snack. In Hei- and Boeicop it will also smell like Christmas trees in the coming months, Arjen thinks. “But I’m willing to do that. The cows are comfortable again, aren’t they.”
