In addition to Beckenbauer, a Brazilian who died last Friday has won World Cup gold as both a player and a coach Mario Zagallo and the current head coach of France Didier Deschamps.

Beckenbauer, nicknamed “The Emperor” at club team level, represented Bayern Munich for most of his career and won four German championships and three European Cups. He played most of his career as a libero.

After Bayern, he represented New York Cosmos and Hamburger SV. Beckenbauer was awarded as the world’s best soccer player in 1972 and 1976.
