It is teeming with new cars that cost the shirt. But how expensive can a new car really be? We have found out and listed the five most expensive new cars.
Although the new car market is dominated by volume products in the style of BMW and Volvo, there is a market for new cars that are tailored to their owners.
It is often the kind of cars that are among the world’s most expensive, as the list below shows.

5. Bugatti Chiron Profile (2023)

The Bugatti Chiron Profilée is a special variant of the Chiron that was supposed to be produced in several copies. However, that was not the case and the only car that was built – a so-called pre-series car – was auctioned off by Bugatti themselves.
The price was a whopping 111,810,000 kroner, to be compared with Sweden’s best-selling car in 2023, the Tesla Model Y, which starts at 574,170 kroner. One “ordinary” Chiron starts at around 30 million.
For the same money as for a Chiron Profilée, you get 195 Tesla Model Y.

4. Rolls-Royce Sweptail (2017)

Three out of five cars on this top list are owned by Rolls-Royce. This is not without reason, but it is because the brand has a department that hand-builds completely unique cars for specially selected customers.
One of these is spelled Sweptail and there is exactly one car in the entire world. When it was launched in 2017, it was then the world’s most expensive new car with a price tag of 13 million dollars, equivalent to 133,294,000 kroner.
For the same money as for a Sweptail, you get 232 Tesla Model Y.

3. Bugatti La Voiture Noire (2019)

Like Rolls-Royce, Bugatti are experts in producing extremely limited edition models. La Voiture Noire is based on the Chiron but with a heavily modified exterior.
It was first shown in 2019, but was completed in 2021. There has been a lot of speculation as to who the buyer is, but it has yet to be confirmed.
For the same money as a Bugatti La Voiture Noire, you get 239 Tesla Model Ys.

2. Rolls-Royce Boat Tail (2021)

The runner-up on the list significantly raises the price of the world’s most expensive car. It is once again a custom-made Rolls-Royce in the form of a car called Boat Tail. Beyoncé and Jay-Z have been rumored to be owners, but Rolls-Royce has confirmed to us that this is not the case.
For the same money as a Rolls-Royce Boat Tail you get 500 Tesla Model Y.

1. Rolls-Royce La Rose Noire Droptail (2023)

In August 2023, during Monterey Car Week, Rolls-Royce showcased its latest bespoke creation, specifically the La Rose Noire Droptail.
The car was built for a customer who likes flowers and lives in the south of France. An actual price has not been confirmed, but according to reliable sources it is 30 million dollars, equivalent to 307,602,000 kroner.
For the same money as a La Rose Noire, you get 535 Tesla Model Ys, enough to start a proper rental car company.
