More and more reports are coming in to the Swedish Work Environment Agency regarding threats and violence in schools.

According to SVT, up to the first week of December 2023, the authority had received 1,035 reports of serious incidents in primary and secondary schools. Most concern students who have exposed staff.

According to SVT, this is a marked increase compared to the year before and more than twice as many as ten years ago.

The increase can partly be explained by the fact that the tendency to report has increased, but also that the problem has grown, according to Kristian Hansson, expert at the Swedish Work Environment Agency.

– We see that the violence that workers are exposed to is getting worse and thus has more serious consequences. We have more cases of physical violence, threats, punches and kicks, he tells SVT.
