This measure had already been proposed a year ago, but the unions opposed it, arguing that contributions to the war effort should be made on a voluntary basis. The government had given up on it. The unions have not yet reacted to this announcement. To set an example, the salaries of ministers are also cut by 5%, as has already been the case since Captain Ibrahim Traoré came to power.
The Minister of the Economy also announces a tax of 2% on the net profit of companies. All this money will be used, according to the government, to improve the equipment of the defense and security forces and to increase the bonuses for Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland, a bonus which will increase from 60 to 80,000 CFA francs (from 90 to 120 euros).
