Over 1,000 cars were stuck in the large car queue on road E22 in Skåne on Wednesday, and on Thursday morning hundreds are still stuck.
Jonathan Lundberg was on his way to his job in Malmö when there was a stop on the road on Wednesday morning. After a few hours, he and a few others managed to drive off the road via an exit to a rest area in Hörby, where he is now.
– I feel very sorry for those who are still in their cars, says Jonathan to TV4 Nyheterna.
He says that he received very little information and help during the time that the road was closed.
– The emergency services say that some that they had rescued from the cars had more or less fallen out of their vehicles because they are so exhausted by this. So it seems to be a really tough situation down there, he says.
Critical to handling
Several of the people that TV4 Nyheterna spoke to are critical of the handling of the situation, and believe that the information was insufficient.
Johanna Wallin was stuck for about 16 hours before she managed to break free and drive out through the cut center rail.
– You may think it is strange that it took so long. They could have blocked the roads earlier but also started an operation earlier, she says.
Calling for food and water
In several groups on Facebook, including the girl group Pink Room, the large car queue engaged many people during yesterday evening and night. In several posts, people have called for food and water for themselves or relatives in line.
One of them is diabetic Norah Andersen, who was stuck for over 21 hours.
– My adrenaline has gone up and down, but that’s probably because I have diabetes. And now I’ve been sitting here without food for almost a day, so I’ve been very anxious for my blood sugar to drop, she says to Sweden’s radio and continues:
– But I got hold of an energy drink from a motorist here in front of me, so it stabilized a bit.
