Sweden to JVM semi-final after extension

Sweden is ready for the semi-finals of the Junior World Cup after a shocker against Switzerland. The big hero was Axel Sandin Pellikka, who scored a decisive 3-2 in extra time.

– One of the most powerful feelings I’ve experienced, he says to SVT Sport.

There were 4.38 left in extra time when Axel Sandin Pellikka struck. With one more man on the ice, Sweden put pressure on Switzerland and Sandin Pellikka was given plenty of space as he pushed the puck forward before firing the shotgun.

Wild blue-yellow joy erupted on the ice and the Swedish players were embraced in a big group hug.

– One of the most powerful emotions I’ve experienced, says Sandin Pellikka.

Upset after expulsion

The goal came after Rodwin Dionicio went out two minutes for hooking. Dionicio yelled at the referee before leaving the ice and national team captain Marcel Jenni was visibly upset.

– An incorrect expulsion, says SVT’s expert Jonas Andersson.

Otherwise it was Switzerland who fought their way back into the match.

Meets the Czech Republic in the semi-finals

First it was reduced to 1-2 in the second period and halfway into the third, Nick Meile made it 2-2 behind an obscured Hugo Hävelid.

– We do Switzerland well. I don’t want to say they are bad, but we give them their chances, says Sandin Pellikka.

– It was unnecessarily nervous, but we still win the match.

For blue and yellow, the Czech Republic now awaits in the semi-finals on Thursday. In the second semi-final, the USA and Finland meet.
