Vilma Ryytty was in an emotional state at the Tour de Ski after the 20-kilometer pursuit of Toblach. The newcomer from Finland was 46th after the free skiing competition. The difference to the leader is now almost five and a half minutes in the overall standings.

Responsible coach of the Finnish women’s national team Ville Maunuksela had to comfort the Tour newcomer and offered to be interviewed before Ryytty at ‘s interview point.

When Ryytty came to ‘s interview, he told the reason for his emotional outburst.

– Maybe my own condition was really good, but there wasn’t much help from the skiing side. It was a bit of a useless trip, Ryytty described.

Finnish men had already had challenges with skis. Ryytty denied that the equipment situation had been stressful before the race.

– I trusted the ski, but the weather pretty much completely changed during the tests. Then there was just the wrong ski underneath, Ryytty stated.

Ryytty described that the ski actually stuck at every point. Coach Maunuksela thought that there could be one reason behind the problems.

– Vilma skied with a different brand of skis than most of our skiers, Maunuksela said.

Ryytty, 22, is now skiing his first full World Cup season. He surprised at the opening of the World Cup season in Ruka in the 20 km freestyle skiing joint start competition. At that time Ryytty was the best Finn in 28th place.
