When a family member or relative passes away, it is often up to the next of kin to clear out their estate. But here it can be good to know what you are doing and to think extra about what you throw away and sell on.
According to Andreas Siesingwho is a manager at Auctionet and who previously worked as a home appraiser and thereby visited several estates, it is not rare to find valuables.
– There is so much happening in the market. Many times what the parents may have flagged for, by saying “this painting is worth a lot of money”, is not what is valuable, but something else entirely. It could be a very worn-out Danish armchair that is appreciated by the market today. So it is not at all unusual that people have items at home that are more valuable than they think, he tells News24.

And Andreas Siesing has a good example of just this, where “the bidders went bananas” once the object ended up at auction.
– I found a small table in a basement, which was to be thrown away along with several other things. They received SEK 320,000 for that, he says.
