“It is with great sadness John Pilgers family announces that he passed away yesterday, December 30,” the family announced in a statement on social media.
John Pilger was born in Australia, but was based in the UK since the 1960s. For several decades he was a foreign correspondent for the Daily Mirror and covered Southeast Asia, among other things.
The left-wing intellectual journalist made a name for himself through several documentary films and reportage books that, among other things, depicted Pol Pot’s repression in Cambodia and Indonesia’s occupation of East Timor.
In recent years, John Pilger committed himself to Julian Assange and questioned the accusations against the Wikileaks founder for rape in Sweden.
