It seems to be a gray new year throughout the country.
And in Dalsland and around Lake Vättern there will be a fair bit of bad weather in the form of snow and wind.
– The weather will be a bit messier there, says TV4’s meteorologist Lovisa Svanberg.
SMHI has issued an orange weather warning for heavy snowfall and strong winds in Dalsland during the New Year celebrations. The area around Vättern has also received a yellow warning. Particularly tough weather conditions are expected west of the lake. Large amounts of snow are also expected on Gotland.
– The warnings start to apply during New Year’s Eve and will also apply during tomorrow, says TV4’s Lovisa Svanberg.
Otherwise, a large cloud cover will cover almost the entire country.
“Pretty lame”
In the Vättern area, the snowfall is expected to start late on New Year’s Eve and intensify during New Year’s Day together with a fresh easterly wind. In total, around 10 to 20 centimeters of snow is thought to fall, with the largest amounts west of Vänern and west of Lake Vättern.
– In parts of Dalsland, there can be up to half a meter of snow, says Lovisa Svanberg.
Bus weather, which offers both plus and minus degrees, can cause traffic problems for both motorists and public transport.
– It can be quite slippery in connection with the wetter precipitation that can fall on cold roads, says Lovisa Svanberg.
Minus 20 in the north
In the north, a really cold New Year’s Eve is expected, in many places below minus 20 degrees.
– It will be mostly cloudy, but here and there we have a tear in the cloud cover, says Lovisa Svanberg.
In the southernmost parts of the country, plus temperatures and rain are expected during the New Year celebrations.
