Russia has carried out new attacks against Ukraine at dawn on Sunday. It happens the day after the Russians promised revenge for what they describe as a “terrorist attack” against the city of Belgorod, which is close to the border with Ukraine.
Several Iranian-made drones were targeted overnight at the city of Kharkiv in northeastern Ukraine, according to local authorities. Buildings in the city center are said to have been damaged, according to the mayor, who, however, made no mention of human casualties in his statement.
On Friday, Russia carried out the most extensive attacks on civilians since it launched the war of invasion in February 2022. It was followed by a Ukrainian counter-attack on Belgorod.
Russia requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on Saturday night to discuss the attacks on Belgorod. Then Ukraine’s allies reminded the Russian UN ambassador that it is Russia that has triggered the war.
