GroenLinks has become the largest in Utrecht with nine seats. This is followed by D66 with eight seats and the VVD with five. There will be a total of fifteen parties in the Utrecht council. New are Volt (2), EenUtrecht (1) and Bij1 (1). Mayor Sharon Dijksma, who is at home with a corona infection, announced the provisional results by midnight. At that point, 85 percent of the votes had been counted.

The trend is very clear: local parties are doing well in the Utrecht municipalities, such as in Eemnes, Lopik, Montfoort, IJsselstein and Renswoude, among others.
A remarkable result also in the municipality of Leusden. Locally Important has become the largest from scratch with seven seats. “I am stunned,” responds party leader Alexandra Kolkman. “We’re going to roll up our sleeves.”
