Netflix, Disney+ and others will have competition! A new completely free French streaming service will hit screens on January 8, 2024. No need to spend a fortune to watch films and series on demand!
Streaming platforms have never been so numerous. Between the behemoths Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and Apple TV+, established for a long time in France, and the new ones, like Paramount+ and Max, we no longer know where to turn! The problem is that not all of these big platforms are free. To benefit from it, you must take out a paid subscription – between 13 and 20 euros per month for Netflix, for example, if we except the formula with advertising. However, not only do prices tend to increase regularly, but in addition, it is necessary to increase subscriptions to access exclusive content. And it’s difficult to share an account to limit fees, with platforms now tending to limit this practice.
But a promising newcomer could well change the situation, I name TF1+! Belonging to the audiovisual group, it will be nothing more and nothing less than the first completely free French streaming platform. It will be available from January 8, 2024 on the Web, but also and above all on connected televisions (Android TV, Samsung, LG, Hisense, Philips or Fire TV) and on TV boxes from Orange, SFR and Bouygues Telecom under the form of an application, alongside Netflix and Prime Video. And suffice to say that TF1 is not a beginner in this area! The group has already participated in the Salto platform – a joint service with France Télévisions and M6, abandoned a few months ago – and has its own replay service, MyTF1 – which will give way to TF1+. Its new platform will be, in a way, in its operating principle, a merger of the two services, offering both its Fast TV thematic channels – continuous broadcasting with advertising – as well as replays of its shows and streaming, with original content.
Thus, you will be able to enjoy replay programs from 30 days to 48 months. You will also be able to watch previous seasons of the group’s series and shows, such as Koh Lanta And The Voice, as well as exclusive programs, including 200 family films and 200 series. Moreover, at its launch, the platform will welcome the return of the infinite More beautiful life. In total, we are promised more than 15,000 hours of TV programs, accessible free of charge, in addition to the 5 thematic channels in Fast TV. In addition, TF1+ will integrate the first on-demand information offering, Top Info, which will delve deeper into the news of the day with formats of 3 to 6 minutes.
The platform will also offer quite interesting original functions. This is the case with Top Chrono, an option capable of generating tailor-made summaries, depending on the duration you have chosen. HAS From March 2024, TF1+ will also offer a “recommendation algorithm for joint listening”, called Synchro. To put it simply, each member of the household with a profile will have personalized recommendations based on their tastes and history. A bit like what Netflix, Disney+ and Prime Video offer, except that it will be possible to select several profiles in order to offer programs corresponding to the tastes of several users simultaneously. It’s really innovative and gives a very user-friendly aspect to the service.
The big strong point of TF1+ is that it will be completely free and financed by advertising, even if we do not yet know what the details of this advertising display are. If you are ever allergic to advertising, you can always subscribe to the TF1+ Premium subscription, at 5.99 euros per month. The audiovisual group has high hopes for its new platform and intends to make it part of the daily lives of the French. Especially since advertising is making a comeback on our screens! If viewers had turned away from linear television to streaming platforms because of advertising, it seems to be making a strong comeback, as evidenced by the latest formulas offered by Netflix, Disney+ and, very soon, Amazon Prime Video. TF1+ therefore has every chance!
