“Hope it’s the right person”

A 75-year-old woman has been arrested suspected of having placed food with sharp objects with the aim of harming animals.
Malmö’s dog owners now hope that it is the end of the attacks that have plagued the city’s dogs since 2020.
– You hope it’s the right person, says Petra Bagge, dog owner.

A prosecutor decided today to arrest the 75-year-old woman arrested in Malmö on suspicion of having placed food with sharp objects in order to harm animals. The food that the woman was caught with is not the same type of buns with metal and glass pieces that were previously found in the city.

However, the police are investigating whether she could be behind all the attacks that have plagued Malmö’s dogs since 2020.

– We will compare findings made in yesterday’s crime with previous findings. Then we will hold additional interviews with the arrested woman, says police inspector Daniel Schultz to Sydsvenskan.

Can’t breathe out

Although dog owners in Malmö cannot breathe a sigh of relief yet, Petra Bagge feels hope.

– It would have been so nice if they could find the person who did all this. You are worried that the dogs will ingest something and that it will go badly.

At the end of 2020, a nightmare period began for Malmö’s dogs and dog owners. Namely, bread and meat with shards of glass and razor-sharp pieces of metal were found in kennels and on the streets. Over 160 crimes have been reported to the police, but the police have no suspects.

– It is worrying and we are talking about it. For us dog owners in Malmö, it’s a little annoying, says Tomas Isaksson.

Always looking extra

For Petra Bagge, the period has been difficult. Mainly because she has a dog that “eats everything she sees”, she says

– Every time you’ve been out and about, you’ve been worried. You always look extra among the bushes and in the grass. You have really been on your guard.
