The war in Ukraine: This is why a peace agreement is unlikely

SVT Nyheter asked Katarina Engberg, a security policy analyst who, among other things, holds a doctorate in peace and conflict research, about what possible scenarios exist for an end to the war in Ukraine.

According to her, the most likely thing is a frozen conflict, a situation similar to that between North and South Korea.

– There is still no peace agreement there.

A decisive factor would be whether Ukraine was admitted to NATO. However, the defense alliance has as a condition that you must not have any unresolved conflicts with neighboring countries, which means that a peace agreement is first needed.

– I don’t think Moscow is that keen on such an agreement.
